What is Imperfect Foods
Founded in 2015, Imperfect Foods was started to eliminate food waste. The grocery delivery service delivers imperfect produce and affordable pantry items as well.
The food that normally would go to waste because of it's size or a few imperfections is now offered to consumers.
When Imperfect Foods first started, it was called Imperfect Produce and focused only on imperfect produce.
Since starting, the company has expanded and now offers pantry items. I've been able to try new products through Imperfect Foods.

what makes something "Imperfect"
Imperfect Foods offers perfectly good and delicious food that normally would be deemed imperfect and go to waste.
Cosmetic
You may notice at the grocery stores, all of the produce look beautiful in color and uniform in size.
If produce doesn't fit what the grocery store wants, it's considered ugly and can't be sold; even though it'll still taste delicious.
wrong size
Grocery stores want a specific size when they are purchasing produce. So if a farm produces a smaller sized vegetable, retailers won't but it.
Surplus
Many of the items I purchase are surplus items. Sometimes there is just too much of something. Surplus inventory ensures that extra produce harvested from farmers doesn't go to waste.
Undervalued
This is all about supply and demand. Sometimes consumers just don't want a particular item.
packaging change
When a brand needs a makeover and changes the packaging, the old packaged product often has to to be removed from shelves. Even though the food inside is perfectly fine!
short-coded
If an item has a "best by" date less than a few months away, the store doesn't want to stock it.
I've bought a few pantry items like jam that were short-coded products.
There is nothing wrong with the non-perishable items. The food is still still delicious and perfectly good.
Imperfect Foods purchases these types of products and allows consumers to purchase then before the items go to waste.
I love that they offer food beyond produce. I think this is great, especially if you live in an area where it's hard to find certain items.
how exactly does Imperfect Foods Work?
First, you'll want to see if Imperfect Foods is in your area. They have really expanded to where they deliver over the past few years.
If they do deliver to your area, set your box size. They offer small, medium, large, and extra-large. You can also select if you want organic or conventional produce if that is important to you.
You'll be given a shopping window to shop. When the shopping window opens up, your box will be preloaded with items.
If you don't need some of the items in your box, you can remove them. If you would like to receive certain items every week, if available, you can select an option for that as well.
After looking at my box and removing items that I don't need, I'll go in and see what other items are available and add more to my box.
Just because you've pre-selected a size, you can buy more or less.
You'll have a select delivery day and your box will be delivered right to your door.
There have been a few items that an item has been missing in my box. I contacted customer service and they refunded money for the missing item.
If you are trying to limit your trips to the grocery stores, Imperfect Food is a great option to try out.
