A Craft Beer and Vegan Food Guide to Grand Rapids, Michigan guide.
This guide will tell you where to find all the best vegan food & craft beer in Grand Rapids.
I’m so excited to finally be sharing my Craft Beer and Vegan Food Guide to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where I live! It’s been a lot of fun working on this guide over the past few months. I have tasted some incredible vegan food and experienced some incredible craft beers.
Grand Rapids is often referred to Beer City USA for good reason. The city has been voted America’s Best Beer Town and America’s Best Beer Scene by USA Today.
When I first moved to Grand Rapids two years, I just assumed that all of the amazing craft breweries wouldn’t have vegan options on their menu. I was so wrong! There are quite a few breweries that offer vegan options right on the menu! As a vegan craft beer enthusiast, I always get excited whenever I see vegan options on the menu. I hope that this is a trend and more breweries across the country will be adding more vegan options.
Don't forget to get your Beer City Brewsader Passport before you start your beercation in Grand Rapids. You can get your copy at any of the breweries listed or at the Welcome Center at the the Grand Rapids Art Museum. If you visit 8 of the 32 breweries, you can get a Brewsader t-shirt!
FOUNDERS BREWING COMPANY
A trip to Grand Rapids isn’t complete without a stop to the iconic Founders Brewery. Founders really put Grand Rapids on the beer scene map. Every time I go to Founders, there is always a big crowd. There are mulitple sitting areas for small to large groups. I especially love sitting outside enjoying one of their IPAs.
What to order:
They offer a few vegan options on the menu. They have a vegan sloppy joe and the Tree Hugger Sandwich can be veganzied. They also offer a few vegan sides like their sweet & tangy coleslaw.
What to drink:
Founders offers a wide selection of beers at the taproom. Some of their most famous beers are KBS, All Day IPA, Dirty Bastard, Rubaeus and Centennial IPA, my go-to beer. Also any of their bourbon barrel aged beers a worth a try on your visit.

We always order the Thai Cobb Pizza with jackfruit. It is one of our favorite pizzas. My husband loves bread and always orders their Vegan Cheesy Bread. From vegan cheese dip to pizza, there are so many great vegan options here.

The menu has a few different vegan options. There are three different vegan sausage options. You can opt for a platter or served on a bun. I highly recommend getting the fries. I usually don't order fries, but I always make an exception here.

The Knickerbocker New Holland Brewing
The Knickerbocker is located on the west side of the city. The building is well designed and thought out. The beer hall opens up to a beer garden and outdoor family space. Upstairs they have an event space for local community events and a cocktail bar. The design of The Knickerbocker is one of my favorite parts about the brewery. I highly recommend walking around and explore the building on your visit.
What to order:
The menu features local, seasonal produce and the menu items change seasonally. They always have a few vegan options labeled right on the menu. My favorite was the tempeh ruben, but unfortunately it is no longer on the menu. Fingers crossed they bring it back! Pictured below is the Hummus Platter featuring black bean hummus, pickles, veggies, roasted nuts and pita bread.
