Take a ride on the historic Bluenose II
When I was planning our family vacation, I was so excited to discover that the Bluenose II was going to be docked during our visit. I was even more excited when I found out that we could take a boat ride on the historic vessel!
The Bluenose II is a replica of the fishing and racing schooner Bluenose. Designed by William Roué and built by the Smith and Rhuland Shipyard, this famous boat was launched in 1921 in Lunenburg.
Since 1937, Bluenose has adorned the Canadian dime. It's also seen on three postage stamps, as well as the Nova Scotia license plate.
In 1963, Bluenose II was launched and gifted to the Government of Nova Scotia in 1971. The vessel sails out of Lunenburg and visits ports throughout Nova Scotia and North America. It is regularly open to the public, offering cruises and onboard access to visitors.
While we were in Lunenburg, we were able to take a harbor cruise along Lunenburg. It was such a fun experience taking sail on the tall ship! This is a great activity that the whole family will enjoy.

Located in the old port of Lunenburg on Nova Scotia’s historic South Shore, you'll discover Nova Scotia’s first micro-distillery—Ironworks Distillery.
It was really neat touring the 1893 heritage building that houses Ironworks. The building was once a marine blacksmith’s shop that once produced ironworks for the shipbuilding trade.
Everything is distilled by hand and use only natural ingredients, sourcing many local ingredients.
Go behind the scenes and see how your favorite spirits are made. Then it is time to sample the amazing liquors. The tours are 45 minutes long and cost $15 per person. You must be over 19 to sample products.
