A recap of our day trip to Chicago VeganMania: A Vegan Wonderland of Food.
Check out all the amazing vegan food we ate!
Last weekend, we took a day trip to our favorite city, Chicago to attend Chicago VeganMania. We love Chicago and the amazing vegan options the city offers. We have attended Chicago VeganMania events in the past, but it had been 5 years since our last time attending. We decided just to a day trip to Chicago, since it is only 3 hours from Grand Rapids. Luckily we didn't hit any traffic on our way into the city. We got to the Broadway Armory around 8:30. Hector dropped me off so I could get into line. The first 100 people get a swag bag! To see what's in the bag, be sure to watch my vlog posted further down in the post.
By the time the event started, we were starving. We decided to check out the food vendors first. It was a hard decision on what to get. I knew that I wanted to try a cake from Pie, Pie My Darling. We opted for the rainbow funfetti cake. Now, I am not a sweets person at all but I just had to try this cake. It was so good! It was light, moist and very sweet.
Next, we got the jackfruit flautas from No Bones Beach Club. These flautas were amazing. I'm going to have to try and recreate these asap.
Our last item we got was the jibarito sliders from The Chicago Diner, one of my favorite vegan restaurants. I loved the addition of the plantain to the sandwich.
After filling our stomaches with all that delicious food, we walked around to see the exhibitors. There are just so many great vegan companies out there now.
I wish that we could have stayed for more of the cooking demos, but we had to get back home to Phoebe. I always have a great time at these types of events. It is great to surround yourself with others who have the same passion as you. If you are newly vegan or thinking about becoming vegan, I highly recommend attending a vegan event near you. It is great connecting with others and meeting great vegan companies and people.
