I love hiking year round, but there is just something about hiking during the fall months. From the leaves changing color to the cool, crips weather, it's a perfect time to get outside and explore the local trails. Our pug Phoebe loves to go on hikes with us. She doesn't do well when it is hot outside; she tends to overheat very easily. Once the weather starts to cool down, Phoebe and & I love to go hiking together on our favorite trails.
Eliminating Pet Stains & Odors
One of my least favorite parts about hiking with Phoebe is that her paws can get very dirty and muddy from the trails. One of my essential tips for fall hiking with your dog is to use STAINMASTER®™ Carpet Pet Stain Remover. Sometimes pet stains can be stubborn and tough to remove, but using STAINMASTER makes cleaning up so much easier. STAINMASTER quickly cleans the spot, while at the same time eliminating the odor within minutes. STAINMASTER is designed to repel dirt and protect against your carpet against re-soiling. Since we go hiking frequently during the fall, it is a great feeling knowing that my carpet is protected against future stains.

I found STAINMASTER®™ in the cleaning section at my local Target.

Even though it might not be hot out, it is still important to carry water for your dog. Dogs can get thirsty easily, especially if you are going on a long hike. I always like to make sure to bring plenty of water and Phoebe's collapsable water bowl.
Food & Snacks
You just never know when your dog will get hungry! If am going on a very long hike with the dog, I will bring some of her dog treats and a small container of her dog food.
Location
When hiking in the fall months, I like to pick a location with great fall color. It makes for such a scenic hike. Fall is a great time to explore new trails and parks with your dog.
Cold Weather Clothing
When the temperature gets into the low 50s, Phoebe gets too cold and needs to wear her jacket. If the forecast is calling for cooler weather, then I'll pack her jacket just incase she gets too cold.
Phoebe and I are looking forward to getting outside this fall and hiking our local hiking trails.

Good call on having Staimaster handy after your hike! My dog brings in wet paws, leaves and some mud during the fall season. And he's a little dog, too. So, I have to clean carpets and the couch. I love that collapsible bowl you have, I need to get one of those! #client

Phoebe is so cute, especially in her little jacket! That carpet stain remover sounds like a lifesaver! My dogs and I spend a lot of time outside in the fall, when it tends to be rainy and muddy, so our carpets take a beating. We just call the carpet cleaners at the end of the season to take care of it all, but we probably should get something like that and maintain our carpets all fall! Thanks for this great article!
