Tofu doesn't have to be boring! You only need a few ingredients to make this flavor packed Buffalo Tofu recipe!
There is no question about whether or not I like tofu. I love it! If you still aren't quite sure about tofu, I think that is a great recipe to try out—especially if you like spicy foods.
I've been making this buffalo tofu recipe at least twice a month this year. I just love how easy it is to make!
There are so many different types of tofu on the market. For this recipe in particular, I love using a super firm tofu. My favorite is the high protein super firm tofu from Trader Joe's. The best part about using this type of tofu is that you don't have to press it. Since it's already so firm, there is no need to!
By using super firm tofu, the tofu is able to hold up to the buffalo sauce. The tofu won't fall apart as it cooks.
how to make the buffalo tofu
To start making the tofu, melt some vegan butter in a large, deep sided skillet.
Once the butter has melted, pour in the Frank's Red Hot Sauce. Let the butter and hot sauce simmer for a few minutes.
Next add in the garlic powder, onion powder and Better than Bouillon roasted garlic paste. I'm obessed with this roasted garlic base. I think that it adds so much flavor to the sauce. I found it at my local grocery store. If you aren't able to find it, you could try adding more garlic powder or some fresh garlic.
Next crumble in the tofu and season with salt and pepper to taste. Let the tofu summer for about 1 hour.
The tofu will absorb all that delicious buffalo flavor as it simmers.
I like making the tofu the day before I plan on serving it. The tofu tastes so much better the next day.
It's really good served cold too. I'm usually not the biggest fan of cold tofu, but this tofu is so good straight out of the fridge.
how to serve the buffalo tofu
My favorite way to serve the buffalo tofu is in a sandwich. I like to use a flatbread or pita and add some lettuce, tomato, avocado and vegan ranch.
It's one tasty sandwich!
If you like to meal prep on the weekends, this is a great recipe for that. It makes a large amount and just tastes better the longer it sits in the fridge!
